Privacy Policy
Last updated: 5 October 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how the owner of Jongzo (the "Operator"), an individual acting as a sole trader based in the United Kingdom, collects, uses, and protects your personal data when you use the Jongzo website at jongzo.com and the Jongzo app (the "Service"). It is written to meet the requirements of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
1. Data controller
The Operator is the data controller responsible for your personal data. The Operator is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) as required for UK data controllers. To contact the Operator, email support@jongzo.com. You also have the right to raise concerns with the ICO at ico.org.uk.
2. Personal data we collect
We collect the following categories of personal data:
- Account data: your email address, display name, username, and profile photo.
- Presence data: an online/away/invisible status and a last-active heartbeat, used to show friends when you are around.
- Game data: saved matches, scores, match history, online room settings, and solitaire and daily puzzle results.
- Social data: friend requests, friends list, and room nudges you send.
- Messages: the name, email, and message you submit through the contact form.
- Usage data: anonymous analytics events and basic device/browser information.
3. How we collect your data
We collect data you provide directly when you register, set up a profile, play a game, or contact us. We also collect data automatically through the Service (for example presence heartbeats and game results) and via analytics tools that help us understand how the Service is used. We do not use your data to build a profile for targeted advertising.
4. Lawful basis for processing
Under UK GDPR we rely on the following lawful bases:
- Contract (Art. 6(1)(b)): to create and run your account and provide the scoring, online, and social features you requested.
- Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)): for your profile photo, contact-form messages, and any optional analytics — you may withdraw consent at any time.
- Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)): to keep the Service secure, prevent misuse, communicate with you, and improve features, in ways that do not override your rights.
- Legal obligation: where we are required to keep records or respond to lawful requests.
5. How we use your data
We use your personal data to:
- create and manage your account and authenticate you;
- record and display your games, scores, history, and results;
- run online rooms, friends, nudges, and presence features;
- respond to support requests and messages you send us;
- keep the Service secure and prevent fraud or misuse; and
- improve and maintain the Service through analytics.
6. Sharing your data
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only where necessary: with other players to the extent needed to run rooms and friend features (for example your display name, presence, and results visible to friends or room members); with service providers who host the app, database, and email delivery under contract and instructed only to process data for us; and where required by law. Where international transfers occur, they are made under the UK adequacy framework or appropriate safeguards such as UK International Data Transfer Agreements.
7. Cookies and local storage
The Service uses local storage on your device to remember your game progress, preferences, last-visited screen, and authentication state, so the app works smoothly. We do not use cookies for advertising. You can clear local storage through your browser settings; this may reset some saved preferences.
8. Data retention
We keep your personal data only for as long as needed. Account and game data is kept while your account is active. Contact-form messages are kept until your query is resolved and then for a short period afterwards. You can delete saved matches and friends at any time. When you close your account, we will delete your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must keep it for legal reasons.
9. Your rights under UK GDPR
You have the following rights:
- Access: request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectification: ask us to correct inaccurate data.
- Erasure ("right to be forgotten"): ask us to delete your data.
- Restriction: ask us to limit processing in certain circumstances.
- Portability: receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Objection: object to processing based on legitimate interests.
- Withdraw consent: where processing relies on consent.
- Complaint: complain to the ICO (ico.org.uk).
To exercise any right, email support@jongzo.com. We will respond within one month, as required by UK GDPR.
10. Children
The Service is suitable for users aged 13 and over. Children under 13 may only use the Service through an account created and managed by a parent or legal guardian, who consents to the child's data being processed. We do not knowingly collect personal data directly from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided data to us without parental consent, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Security
We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including access controls, encrypted authentication, and limiting access to data on a need-to-know basis. No system is completely secure, but we work to keep the Service safe.
12. Data breaches
If a personal data breach occurs that is likely to risk your rights and freedoms, we will notify the ICO within 72 hours of becoming aware of it, and will inform you directly where the risk is high, in line with UK GDPR.
13. International transfers
Some service providers may process data outside the UK. Where this happens, we rely on the UK's adequacy regulations or put appropriate safeguards in place, such as UK International Data Transfer Agreements, to ensure your data is protected to UK standards.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be notified through the Service or by email. The "Last updated" date above shows when it was last revised.
15. Contact
For any question about your personal data or this policy, email support@jongzo.com. Our terms of use are set out in our Terms & Conditions.
